A 15-year-old boy has died in hospital four days after being struck by an HGV in South Lanarkshire.
The accident happened on Townhead Street in Strathaven at about 21:25 on Saturday.
Police have appealed for three boys who were with the teenager at the time to come forward.
The driver did not stop at the scene but has since been traced. Police later said the driver may not have realised their vehicle had hit the boy.
Sgt Stuart Bell urged those who had been with the teenager before the accident not to be concerned about coming forward.
He said: “The family of the victim are absolutely distraught and it is vital that we are able to provide them with answers.
“We know that the victim was in the company of three other male youths near to the shops in Green Street beforehand and they will have witnessed the incident.”
He added: “There is no need to be concerned about coming forward but it is very important that we speak to you. Please do the right thing and get in touch so that we can confirm the full circumstances of what happened for the victim’s family.”
The teenager was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride with serious injuries following the incident but died on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
